Grounding techniques are strategies that can help you manage anxiety, traumatic memories or strong feelings. The purpose of this grounding technique is to allow you to step away from negative thoughts or flashbacks.

Using the 5,4,3,2,1 method involves listing :

5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste.

This acts as a pattern interrupt for your anxiety and calms down your racing thoughts.

  • An Anxiety Grounding Charm Collection that takes you through the 5,4,3,2,1 method. Use this visual reminder when you start to feel panicked.
