Which is the best Colouring App?
One of the most common questions we get since launching our digital colouring books, is, 'What’s the best colouring app?'
Don’t worry, I (Holly) have tested a whole bunch of them, so you don't have to.
We are absolutely not affiliated with any of these apps in any way at all.
InColor 4/5
Illustration from our Neurospicy Colouring Book
Best for: Relaxation and a variety of pre-made designs
Available on: Android & iPhone
InColor is a fan-favorite for those who love traditional colouring books but want the convenience of a digital experience. It offers a wide range of intricate designs, from mandalas and florals to animals and abstract patterns.
What I loved:
- Ease of use: The app is intuitive, with a simple interface that’s beginner-friendly.
- Colour palette options: There are plenty of pre-set palettes, and you can even create custom ones.
- Relaxing experience: It’s all about stress-free creativity. Just tap to fill or manually colour for a more hands-on experience.
Room for improvement:
- Subscription-based premium content: Many of the best designs and tools are locked behind a paywall.
- There are some LONG video ads, which are annoying, if I was to use this app regularly I would need to join a paid subscription, as the ads are annoying!
- HAS to have the "Incolor" logo on the version you save out, it's kinda big too (but you could screenshot it to get a version without the logo)
- Limited editing options: Unlike more advanced apps, InColor focuses on simplicity, which might feel restrictive for seasoned digital artists.
Can I colour my Sugar & Sloth downloads?
Yes! I screenshot the colouring pages and could easily upload them. I could colour using all the options, including Tap to Fill (which is my favourite), and save the finished design.

Recolor 3/5
Illustration from our Love Yourself You Stupif B*tch Colouring Book
Best for: Social sharing and vibrant art styles
Available on: Android & iPhone
Recolor is more community focused, and encourages sharing your work.
What I loved:
-
Lots of varied designs: The app’s library is modern and trendy, featuring everything from pop culture references to edgy patterns.
-
Social features: You can share your finished pieces with other users and browse a gallery for inspiration.
-
Dynamic effects: After coloring, you can apply filters and effects to make your art stand out.
Room for improvement:
-
There is a free trial, but this is a paid app.
-
Not as relaxing: The app leans more towards producing polished, shareable art than a laid-back coloring experience.
Can I colour my Sugar & Sloth downloads?
Yes! As with InColor, I can screenshot, and upload from my gallery.

Infinite Painter 2/5
Illustration from our Screaming is Self-Care Colouring Book
Best for: Advanced users and creative freedom
Available on: Android & iPhone
I didn't get on so well with this app, BUT if you're more arty than me, and better at staying in the lines, it may be the one for you!
Infinite Painter isn’t strictly a coloring app, it’s a powerful digital art tool that includes coloring as one of its many features.
If you’re looking to elevate your digital art skills, this app is a fantastic option.
What I loved:
-
Professional tools: With an impressive array of brushes, layering options, and blending tools, Infinite Painter is perfect for those who want full creative control.
-
Custom designs: You’re not limited to pre-made pages; you can draw your own designs to color in.
-
High-quality results: The app’s tools and resolution make it feel like you’re working on a professional canvas.
Room for improvement:
-
Steeper learning curve: The interface is more complex, so it’s not as beginner-friendly.
-
Not designed for casual coloring: If you’re just looking to unwind with simple designs, this app might feel overwhelming.
Can I colour my Sugar & Sloth downloads?
Yes! As with the two other apps, I can screenshot, and upload from my gallery.
Because of this, I'd say this was my closest experience to colouring on paper, so if that's your preference, this may well be the app for you!
